Kruger Untamed is about more than just a safari – it’s a profound reconnection with the wild. In our camps, nature is not curated or controlled but encountered on its own terms. We exist to preserve the art of true exploration, honour the wisdom of indigenous trackers, and offer an unfiltered experience that leaves no trace on the land but a lasting impact on those who walk it.
Satara Plains Camp and Tshokwane River Camp both hark back to the golden age of safari, with nods to the early bush camps of old, touching the Earth lightly and leaving no trace behind when the camps close at the end of each season. Perfect for those seeking authentic wilderness experiences, each camp has its own special rhythm and set of offerings, from the group-friendly, easy vibe of Satara Plains Camp to Tshokwane River Camp’s more refined slow-safari experience, crafted for guests who value depth and detail.
Kruger Untamed offers the chance to connect with the soul of Kruger, redefining the meaning of remote in secret sanctuaries where untouched landscapes beckon and wild Africa awaits, far from the madding crowds and bustle of life in the concrete jungles of our towns and cities. Through expertly guided game drives, walking safaris and wilderness experiences, and the magic of sleeping under canvas in no small amount of luxury, our safaris will change the way you view the world and open your minds to the importance of protecting our precious wilderness areas and the incredible wild fauna and flora that call them home.
Located 7km from Kruger’s Satara Rest Camp, on the banks of the seasonal Mavumbye River, Satara Plains Camp is in the thick of this region’s incredible wildlife action. With a natural spring that holds water year-round, this area acts as a magnet for huge herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as plentiful plains game, ensuring unforgettable game-viewing experiences throughout the season. This area is also renowned for its lions and sightings are usually plentiful.
In an enviable location near the iconic Tshokwane picnic spot in the heart of the Kruger National Park’s central region, easily accessible via Skukuza, Tshokwane River Camp is set on the seasonal Ripape River which is dry during the winter months. The game viewing in this area is outstanding all year round, with a wealth of antelope drawing in Kruger’s rapacious predators, including lion, cheetah, leopard, painted wolves (African wild dog) and spotted hyena.
Ours is a rich legacy, founded in the traditions and culture of the Shangaan people who have a deep and intimate relationship with the vast wilderness that is the Kruger National Park and the surrounding private game reserves that together make up the Greater Kruger region.
Master trackers and incredible guides with a wealth of knowledge and generational wisdom handed down over the ages, the Shangaan are inspirational and at Kruger Untamed we honour the phenomenal impact they have had on the work that we do and the role they play as ambassadors for the Kruger wilderness.
The majority of our staff come from the local communities around the Kruger and are happy to share their culture and the stories of their past with our guests. Indeed, it’s our people who make Kruger Untamed what it is and who have brought our dream of offering unique, authentic safari experiences in one of the world’s most sought after wildlife destinations to life. We celebrate their vibrant heritage in everything we do.
Your stay with Kruger Untamed includes a range of exciting activities, from game drives and walking safaris to storytelling around the campfire, where tales of the days adventures are shared, and stargazing – discovering the infinite magic of the African night sky. Here’s some inspiration…

At Kruger Untamed, we have the ability to host groups and special events at both of our camps. With 30 tents and an easy, laid-back vibe, Satara Plains Camp lends itself to groups of friends and families travelling together to celebrate milestone birthdays, anniversaries or just wanting to have fun. It is also the perfect venue for weddings, corporate gatherings and brand launches. With just 20 tents, Tshokwane River Camp offers a more intimate group experience and is ideally suited for exclusive-use events and celebrations. We are able to tailor events to suit specific needs at both camps.
Our camps are seasonal which means we erect them in time for opening on 1 May each year and completely dismantle them when our season closes on 30 September each year.
When we break camp, we ensure we return each site to a pristine condition so that no record of our presence remains, allowing for complete regeneration of the area, which happens quickly once the first rains fall. Our footprint is minimal to match our ethos of authentic, immersive safari experiences that respect and honour nature.
The wild belongs to itself, and we honour that by treading lightly. Every element of our camps is designed to be temporary, ensuring nature reclaims its space the moment we step away.
This isn’t just eco-conscious travel; it’s the purest form of wilderness immersion – one that leaves the bush as wild, raw, and untamed as it was meant to be.
The tales we tell of the wilderness we work in are endless and fascinating, and our Journal page is where we share them, offering up the background to what we do, how we do it and why we do what we do. We’re fuelled by a passion for the incredible wilderness we call home and the wild fauna and flora we share it with. Expect to find a broad selection of informative, entertaining and enlightening stories from across Kruger Untamed, designed to keep you connected to Kruger long after your stay with us has ended.
