ACTIVITIES

Unscripted adventures. Untamed experiences.

A Kruger Untamed safari isn’t just about seeing the wild – it’s about living it. Every moment in camp and out in the bush is designed to bring you closer to the untamed beauty of Kruger, whether you’re tracking fresh lion prints on a morning walk, experiencing the raw energy of the landscape on morning and afternoon game drives, or raising a glass to the day’s adventures with a sundowner as the day fades into a star-streaked night.

This is a safari stripped back to its purest essence – no crowds, no distractions, just you and the rhythm of the African wilderness. Whether you’re out on a drive scanning the horizon for movement, walking the same game trails carved by generations of wildlife, or simply listening to the nocturnal symphony from the comfort of your tent, every moment is an immersion into something ancient and primal.

SLOW DOWN & SAVOUR

Your days begin with the soft glow of dawn as the bush stirs to life. The crisp morning air carries the distant roar of lions, the haunting call of hyenas echoing across vast landscapes, and the rustling of unseen creatures moving through the undergrowth. Adventure beckons as you head out into the wilderness for the next few hours, either on a game drive or on foot, returning to camp for a hearty breakfast.

The middle section of the day are yours to enjoy at leisure, whether relaxing with a good book in the lounge area or soaking up the sun on a lounger. Perhaps indulge in a game of cards or just chat over a refreshing drink in the safari bar. Take a siesta in your luxurious tent, being lulled to sleep by the soft hum of cicadas… The choices are endless.

In the late afternoon the wilderness beckons once more, as you embark on another expedition before night calls you home to a sensational dinner beneath a canopy of stars, followed by drinks around a dancing campfire…

When your bed begins to call, you fall asleep to the sounds of the African night, excited at what tomorrow will bring.

This is the Kruger Untamed rhythm. Come and enjoy it with us!

Here are the activities you can look forward to during your stay with Kruger Untamed

Morning & afternoon game drives

Climb into an open game vehicle as the first light spills over the savannah, heading out into the unknown… The first few turns reveal elephants moving through soft morning mist, the fresh tracks of a leopard in dew-laden sand, and a herd of impala beginning their day. As the sun climbs higher, birds become more active, and life takes on new meaning. You stop for coffee in an impossibly beautiful place and marvel at the stillness all around you.

As the day mellows, head out for an afternoon/evening drive, where golden light dances through the trees and the predators begin to stir. As the sun dips below the horizon, you’ll stop in a secluded spot and with a drink in hand you’ll toast the setting sun, as the bush is bathed in a magical amber lights and the sky takes on every shade of orange. Venture out into the gathering darkness with a spotlight as you return to camp, picking out the eyes of animals moving as night descends.

Guided Walking Safaris

For those craving an intimate bush experience, a guided walking safari offers the ultimate thrill. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you’ll step beyond the camp and discover ancient animal trails, immersing yourself in the intricate details of Kruger’s untamed wilderness. From tracking fresh spoor to learning the hidden language of the bush, every step unveils something extraordinary.

Your tracker and guide share their knowledge and expertise, showing you the small things that you’d never notice on a drive, bringing the wilderness into perspective, adding context in rich layers as nature’s intricate web of interconnectedness is revealed. Slowly you learn to read the signs, the faint signals left behind by countless creatures as they pass through ancient landscapes sculpted by time. There is no better way to experience the essence of untamed.

A specialist tracking experience

Available only at Tshokwane River Camp, tracking isn’t just an activity – it’s a way of seeing the world anew. Guided by master tracker Renias Mhlongo and our handpicked team of skilled guides, guests are invited to step off the vehicle and into the raw, unscripted theatre of the wild. You’ll learn to read the stories of the wilderness written in the dust and how to move with the rhythm of the bush, interpreting its language, and, perhaps most importantly, how to listen.

Our signature Walk with Renias experience is a masterclass in ancient knowledge passed down through generations. This is tracking in its purest form – quiet, immersive, and profoundly humbling. For those lucky enough to join, it’s a rare invitation to see the wilderness through the eyes of one of Africa’s most respected trackers. With Renias, the journey becomes the destination. You don’t just witness the wild – you feel it, step by careful step, in a way that changes how you experience nature forever.

Sundowners

As the sun sinks towards the horizon, there’s no better way to celebrate the day’s adventures than with a perfectly mixed G&T in hand, or a glass of whatever you desire, poured with perfection on an inpromptu table against a magical backdrop of raw, unscripted wilderness. Or taken alongside a crackling fire back in camp, as the last rays of the sun create a symphony of colour and startling silhouettes that defy imagination.

Whether enjoyed on your afternoon drive or in camp after a thrilling afternoon walk, sundowners are a time-honoured safari tradition – an opportunity to pause, soak it all in, and toast to the spirit of untamed Africa.

Sundowners

Play

Embrace the safari life with a little friendly competition. From a game of cards or a popular board game in the communal lounge area to trying your your hand at giant noughts and crosses, Jenga, or other classic yard games while soaking up the tranquil atmosphere of camp life. These are a few of the ways to unwind and have fun between game drives while you revel in the relaxed atmosphere a slower pace brings.

Swim

When the midday heat calls for a cool-down, Tshokwane River Camp’s swimming pool offers the perfect escape. Framed by the surrounding bush, it’s a place to relax, refresh, and watch as passing wildlife weaves through the landscape beyond. Relax on a lounger alongside it and soak in the welcome warmth of the African sun. It may be winter in South Africa, but with an average daily peak temperature of 26 Deg C, it’s on par with a northern hemisphere summer!

Relax

Gathering around the campfire with a drink, sharing stories of the day’s sightings, and soaking in the unfiltered magic of the Kruger wilderness at night is a rare privilege. Looking up is a billion-star experience as the velvety black sky reveals the Milky Way and countless galaxies beyond… This, like every experience at Kruger Untamed, is a rite of passage designed to make you feel part of something bigger – something truly wild.

SOAK

Set under a canopy of tall riverine trees away from the main camp area, Satara Plains Camp’s communal hot tubs are the perfect way to relax and enjoy a total (literal) immersion in the Kruger wilderness! Choose whether to heat them up, or jump in “au naturel” and cool off, depending on the weather and your preference. Ask us for a bottle of wine and some glasses and just unwind to the sights and sounds of nature and watch the world pass you by.
