Returning to the wild in 2026
Our 2025 is now at a close, but in 2026 Kruger Untamed returns for another fleeting season, from 1 May to 30 September. Two wild sanctuaries – Satara Plains Camp and Tshokwane River Camp – rise quietly from the heart of the Kruger, offering guests a rare chance to live close to the earth, guided by the rhythms of nature. Next year our vanishing camps continue their gentle evolution, each deepening its identity: Satara as the spirited, open-hearted introduction to life untamed; Tshokwane as a slower, more immersive retreat shaped by detail and stillness. Together they mark another step in the ongoing story of Kruger Untamed…
The rhythm of each of our camps has settled into a slow, steady heartbeat for Kruger Untamed. The past couple of seasons have brought subtle refinements, deeper immersion, and a stronger sense of connection with place. In 2026, that journey continues, with the evolution of the camps – two experiences shaped by the same untamed spirit, yet each with its own distinct character.
Temporary by design and built lightly on the land, they leave no trace when packed away at the end of the season, preserving the purity of the wild spaces they inhabit. Yet within their canvas walls lies a world of thoughtful detail – simple, grounded comfort that keeps guests close to nature while offering moments of ease and reflection. Here, the soundtrack is the call of birds, the rustle of dry grass, the crackle of firewood, and the distant bark of a baboon at dusk. Every sound is a reminder that you are part of something larger, older, and endlessly alive.
Satara Plains Camp – The Freedom to Shape Your Safari
Set on open savannah where the horizon runs free, Satara Plains Camp introduces travellers to the world of Kruger Untamed. It is safari distilled to its essence – everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Days begin in the cool hush before sunrise and close with the golden glow of late afternoon, when the air softens and the bush comes alive once more. Guests may choose either a morning or an afternoon game drive each day, with the freedom to add an additional drive at a small surcharge if they wish to spend more time exploring.
Guided walking safaris are also available for those who want to see the bush from a different perspective, though these must be pre-booked at least a month in advance and are offered at an additional cost. Walking in Kruger is a rare privilege, and this advance planning ensures that all necessary preparations are handled with care and precision.
Between drives, the camp has a relaxed and easy vibe. Meals are hearty and satisfying, served with generosity and warmth. Conversation flows around the fire, and there’s a sense of shared adventure that brings people together – families, couples, solo travellers, and small groups alike.
Satara Plains Camp represents the accessible heart of Kruger Untamed – a place where comfort meets authenticity and where every day feels shaped by freedom, openness, and the joy of being truly out in the wild.

Tshokwane River Camp – Where Everything Comes Together
Next year marks the beginning of a new era for Tshokwane. This is where the Kruger Untamed brand’s vision for a more refined wilderness experience begins to take shape, with subtle enhancements in comfort, thoughtful touches in cuisine, and a renewed focus on creating space for stillness and reflection.
Tshokwane River Camp will now be smaller, quieter, and more personal, offering a slow safari experience for those who prefer depth over pace. Here, two game drives each day are included, allowing guests to explore the surrounding landscapes in the soft light of morning and again as evening settles over the plains.
For those drawn to an even deeper connection with the land, guided walking safaris and tracking experiences form part of the stay – moments where guests can slow down, learn from expert guides, and witness the bush from its most intimate vantage point.
The camp itself rests beneath a canopy of trees along the seasonal Ripape riverbed – a sanctuary of shade and quiet. Days unfold gently, meals are crafted with safari flair and an eye for detail, and evenings are spent around the fire sharing stories, laughter, and the soft silence that follows when everyone looks up at the same sky.

A shared philosophy
Though distinct in style, Satara and Tshokwane are bound by a single philosophy – that true wilderness experiences are not measured in sightings or luxuries, but in the depth of feeling they evoke. Both camps invite you to slow down, to be still, and to let the bush unfold in its own time.
Kruger Untamed remains committed to a light footprint and to meaningful immersion in nature. Each camp rises and falls with the season, leaving the land untouched and the wild unchanged. Guests become part of that rhythm – part of something fleeting yet profoundly memorable.
As the 2026 season approaches, Kruger Untamed continues its quiet evolution. Not through grandeur or excess, but through a deepening respect for place, for people, and for the wilderness itself. For those who come to share in it, the invitation is simple: return to the wild, as it truly is – unfiltered, unhurried, untamed.
