Type: 3 Months Fixed-term contract /Seasonal Position
The Head Guide will oversee daily guiding operations, manage the guide team, and ensure client safety and satisfaction. This role will include creating excursion itineraries, enforcing safety protocols, mentoring junior guides, handling logistics, and delivering high-quality, engaging tours.
This is a live-in position that offers accommodation, meals while on duty, and various other benefits. The successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing the overall lodge operations, ensuring smooth coordination between departments, maintaining high service standards, and enhancing guest satisfaction
Head Guide Job Specification
Leadership & Team Management
– Mentorship: Training junior guides on local history, ecology, safety procedures, and customer service.
– Scheduling & Supervision: Managing the daily rosters, performance evaluations, and workloads of the guiding team.
– Conflict Resolution: Addressing and resolving any staff issues or client disputes professionally.
Safety & Risk Management
– Emergency Protocols: Formulating and executing emergency action plans (e.g., medical evacuations or severe weather procedures).
– Compliance: Ensuring all staff maintain valid first aid, rifle (if applicable), and driver’s certifications.
– Equipment Maintenance: Overseeing the regular maintenance and safety checks of vehicles, tracking gear, and survival equipment.
Guest Experience & Hospitality
– Itinerary Execution: Planning and leading premium tours while catering to specific client needs and preferences.
– Quality Control: Ensuring guest feedback is consistently monitored and that service standards exceed expectations.
– Hosting: Acting as the face of the operation by engaging with guests, making them feel welcome, and answering detailed questions.
Operations & Administration
– Budget Oversight: Managing departmental budgets for equipment, training, and supplies.
– Reporting: Submitting regular reports to management regarding guiding operations, fleet status, and new developments.
– Resource Management: Coordinating closely with lodge management, conservation teams, and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service
Required Qualifications
– FGASA Level 1 or higher, with a specific Trails Guide Qualification
– A certificate or qualification proving proficiency with a rifle, such as Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) and Rifle Proficiency
– A valid First Aid certificate (e.g., Level 2)
– A valid driver’s license with a Professional Driver’s Permit(PDP)
– Previous experience as a field or trails guide, ideally in a lodge setting

Please take note of the following before applying:
– Please note that we a based in a remote wilderness area: limited network connection.
– The work Cycle will be 21 days in and 8 days off.
– You will be required to reside in the concession during your scheduled days.
– Accommodation will be provided (Tent accommodation)
– The employee will be entitled to 15 days of annual leave.
– You will be required to perform other related tasks that might be required.
